On the last Saturday of August people around the world participate in International Play Music on the Porch Day.
Jamesport, Missouri is taking part in the event this year on the front porch of Farmhouse Collections in Jamesport, Missouri . Organizer of the event, Debbie Allen, says the idea to participate came after finding a group online that also participated in the event.
"We came up with the idea because there is an International Play Music on the Porch Day, which was started about five years ago. We saw it online; there's a Facebook page for it. The idea was just very simple that on the last Saturday of August, get on your front porch - or somebody else's porch - and get together and play music. It's just one of those fun things to encourage people to play music together."
Allen adds that everyone is welcome to the event.
"We just have chairs. We sit in a circle. Bring an acoustic instrument and play music with each other. Or if you don't have an instrument you want to play, then come and sing or come and listen."
Play on the Porch Day gets underway on Saturday at 10 a.m. on the Farmhouse Collections front porch in Jamesport, Missouri.
